KN95 masks are quite prominent in china. On the other hand, the N95 masks are deemed ‘fit’ according to U.S. standards.

The N95 face masks are powerful enough to filter out particles that are as large as 0.3 microns or above. It may also be great to learn that the novel coronavirus is in that size range! However, since the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic, most American hospitals have run out of the N95 face masks. That is why the FDA has approved the use of the KN95 masks in the absence of the N95 face masks… And many healthcare facilities have embraced the idea because it has been confirmed that both face masks types have similar functionalities.

Although the KN95 face mask was built to Chinese standards, hospitals in America have concluded that it is better than having ‘no masks’ at all. However, skeptics may still need clarification to be sure of the KN95 face masks before accepting any of them. With this article, we wish to let you know the similarities and differences between these N95 face masks and KN95 face masks and how these masks compare.

N95 are made in the United States and regulated to the standard by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health).

The KN95 face mask, on the other hand, is manufactured in China. They are regulated to the Chinese standards. However, since the Chinese have had their coronavirus breakout contained, they have a huge stock of these masks that have been recently listed as ‘reliable’ in the absence of the N95 face masks.

Similarities of Masks

Most mask users only care about the size of particles that masks can filter out and at what percentage. By this standard, the KN95 face mask and N95 face mask seem to be similar. Both face masks can capture 95% of particles that are as small as 0.03 microns or larger.

In rating nose masks, the air filtration efficiency is often calculated for airflow inside and outside the mask – most especially the efficiency in the masks at capturing NaCl particle. For N95s face mask and KN95s face mask,  they were both tested at an airflow rate of 85L per minute. Here are a few differences:

  • KN95s face masks require fitness testing before they are considered fit for use as KN95 face mask.
  • N95 face mask, on the other hand, do not require such testing but are very strict with their pressure drop requirements – meaning the masks are built to be more breathable than the KN95s face masks
  • The KN95 face mask are tested to comply with about 8% leakage or less

There are a host of other differences between the N95 face masks for sale and KN95 face mask, however, these do not appeal to a layman. What is important is how both masks work against particles in the air and the feel on the skin when worn.

The N95 face mask and KN95 face mask for sale are similar in several ways as well as different. However, the important points are that N95 face masks and KN95 face masks are both powerful nose masks that hold off viruses and other alien bodies that can enter the nostril and cause harm to the body – plus they can be interchanged and still be efficient.

However, the N95 face mask is built to be more breathable than the KN95 face mask.
